Port Said's "Trail of the Sphinx" provided producer/director MICHAEL MANNETTA and performer/choreographer ANAHID SOFIAN with the opportunity to combine their respective talents to produce a unique video experience. The music is a blend of Eastern and Western sensibilities, modern and ancient motifs, and electronic and acoustic instrumentation. The dances are a synthesis of traditional Middle Eastern and contemporary interpretation. The production cleverly combines cinematic techniques and video experimentation. The work began as a video which was shown in Japan, Sweden, Germany and the U.S. on national television. Later, the video was transferred to 35mm film which had its debut showing at Lincoln Center Library Auditorium as part of a live performance by the Anahid Sofian Dance Company.
